Anzac Day 2017

Today is ANZAC Day. A day we all remember a dark day in our history when two fledgling nations were tested and
Although lost a battle forged their identities
These two nations australia and New Zealand are forever connected by these bonds of mateship and endurance

For us today we reflect on what this means and say thank you to all those that have served and are serving to preserve our freedoms

Today I'll watch the services on television and this afternoon we will watch the traditional Anzac Day class between my footy team and Essendon
And I'll continue doing what I always do
I've started a skirt for Melody. I don't have a pattern. I'm going to wing it and see how it goes I've started it with a pattern edge and I'll continue in just plain until it's done
The grey cardigan was just a tad short. She is going to be tall like her dad we think. So I undid it and added another repeat of the pattern edge

The weather is rainy and bleak today. So lamb shanks are in the slow cooker
It's wonderful living the simple life. A choice we made many years ago
And now that  we are getting older. Although our bodies are not as strong as they once were.
We are greatful for what we can do.
Have a lovely day where ever you are
Lest we forget!

Winter is coming

Remember the little purple variegated jacket I made a few weeks ago
Well it fit Melody. And it was perfect with a long sleeve top on for these autumn days
So her mum asked for a couple more
Here is one in a grey mix of wool, silk and acrylic
I had the yarn , which I got a bargain and the buttons I've had for ages. Waiting for a special project
Melody went home wearing this. It was very cute

And here is the one I'm currently working on. It's an alcpaca / acrylic mix.
And as Melody is growing like a weed. I'll add an extra repeat of the pattern at the end to make it slightly longer.
Not a bad start to a winter wardrobe
How's the weather at your place.
It's raining right now and we are loving it here
Enjoy your weekend

Easter 2017

Here is the traditional lamb on the spit for Easter. Everyone was eagerly waiting for it to be ready for us
To eat  it smelled yummy
The whole family congregate at my parents place to feast and swap eggs

Here is my dad with Melody and Tyler. His two great grandchildren
My two nieces are both expecting around August so soon there will be even more
To love and cherish and eat lamb with
But for now that's Easter done for another year
Hope you all have an enjoyable Easter with your family and friends

Time for a new machine

Here is my faithful washing machine. I honestly don't remember when we bought her. But it's been years
The other day while doing a load of towels she started to make horrid noises
Sounded like metal on metal grinding
I quickly turned her off and restarted her. After checking the balance of the load
That wasn't the problem. I restarted her and the same thing happened.
I prayed she would last till the end of the cycle and she did
Hubby came to give her a look over and pronounced her terminal!
It was not a good day

So off we went with the money that I had saved, for a rainy day!
And looked at th machines in our budget
I wasn't going to get one as big as our last machine, she was a 10kilo
But we found this baby. She was the last one, floor stock and was priced over a thousand dollars originally
That was over budget. BUT
as she was the last she was reduced. And hubby got even more off because she was floor stock and had scratches on the lid
So she was well and truly under our budget!
Score
So another 10 kilo washer for me!
She has already washed two loads of washing including my bedding today
She is very quiet and efficient
As for the old girl. She has been relegated to scrap metal
She will be recycled
A fitting end to an old work horse

Crafting along

Finally finished this little cardigan.
It's too small for Melody so I'll put some buttons on it and add it to the charity pile at knitting group
I didn't have enough of the variegated but I added some purple that was left over from another project
I think it blended in well
So two lots of leftovers have been used up

The mill ends that I bought the other day in the sale
Just using them in a C2C. Will take it away with me for  star warmth when we go away path colours will
Blend in nicely with the Australian outback!
The weather has finally turned cold. It's been raining for two days now and the paddocks have loved it
So the fire is going and the washing is drying
I'm a happy girl!

No pressure

This morning I went off to bunnings to get some seedlings for the winter vegetable garden
As spotlight is righ there I also decided to pop in there.
There was nothing in particular that jumped at me so I left empty handed
Then I though well lincraft is just a short walk away  and I need to keep my steps up
So I headed off
Wasn't really expecting to find anything
But then I saw this.
Isn't it beautiful. It called out. Angela. Buy me!
So I bought three balls and decided I definitely needed a shawlet for dinner tonight!
Yup I came home quickly did my daily chores and got stuck in

Here is wonderful teddy modelling my finished shawlet
It's the perfect colour for autumn, don't you think?
So now I'm ready to go out to dinner. Finished it with half an hour to spare. Plenty of time to get myself ready lol
Enjoy your Saturday night

Plastics cupboard

Yes folks. That dreaded cupboard that you throw things in and quickly shut again
Where lids multiply but the actual containers go in and are never found again
I've been procrastinating for weeks!
So today I decided. Was the day!

This is the part I don't like. Everything out and all over the floor. Anxiety levels go up and I think omg
What have I done! Cleaned the shelves and took a deep breath.
Put on some music and I was brutal!
Threw out all my ice cream containers, old yogurt containers and anything that didn't have a lid
A huge big green bag worth.
I even had those pump water bottles. Everywhere!

And here it is all done.
Nice, clean and organised
My son popped in at exthe right time and I asked him to take the green bag to the huge dumpster at the workshop
Just in case I panicked and "saved" some of the Junk I had thrown out!
So all done now
Panic subsided and calm has returned.
Lots of room to buy some new plastics. Don't you think? Lol
See ya xx

Tweaking the set up

We are planning on a month long holiday up north. Wayyyyy up north near the gulf in the Northern Territory
Having spent the weekend away a few weeks ago. I knew I needed to set things up differently
So here is the bones of my outdoor kitchen  I'll also have a table set up nest to it for prep and all utensils and cooking apparatus will be kept in tubs and set up in the cupboard or just will be sitting on the prep bench
This will be easy to set up. Easy access and much easier to keep things clean. Sealed in tubs that famous red dust from Australia's centre won't get all over it
It really gets into everything!

This is my bargain of the week. A quick shade with sides!
Anyone how knows anything about Australia knows our flys are thick and annoying. Especially in the outback!
Only $129 from Aldi and it will save my Sanity. I'll be able to sit and craft, read and eat all without doing the famous Aussie salute.
Bliss

Our new shower tent. It's one of those quick set up ones that spring open. Only problem is they are a pain to pack up
Which is why I didn't go for it the first time. But after watching hubby trying to read the instructions and not getting anywhere. I decided to consult trusty you tube
A couple of videos later and we are experts at folding it away. I've saved them and will Practice some closer to departure.
So slowly I'm getting organised. Trying to slimline and make things easier for us oldies
And hopefully make it a much nicer experience for us
What about you guys. Any advice for us?
See ya xxx

Busy week

I can't believe it's Thursday already. This week I have been swimming, visited the dentist, gone shopping with my daughter in law and continued knitting
I have made progress with the baby cardigan
I will try and make the number make sense one day. But not in th mood to deal with it now. So this is my new go to pattern
Just keep knitting now until it's the right length.

Here are all the bunnies and chickens our group has knitted. The royal children's hospital cannot give them to sick children due to occupational health and safety but we're happy to sell them and use the money
We didn't really want that. We wanted them to go to the children directly so Barbra our lovely leader found a local school for special needs children who said they would love to have them and share them with their kids
So they will be going to them with lots of love from our wonderful ladies

Spotlight had a sale on their Caron cakes so my daughter in law and I went off to buy us some.
Well I bought me some lol
I even got lucky and found some Caron cake mill ends.
So the hunt is on for patterns to use these on
Cooler weather is here and we have had a lovely drop of rain
Might even light the fire in a week or two.
How are you all going? Have you been as busy as we have?
See ya xxx

What a drama

Morning all from a very hot autumn morning here in Melbourne.
But I'll leave that for another post
Remember I started this pattern on Friday?
Well I couldn't get the stitch count right.
No matter what I tried.
I cast on  62 stitches and all was fine till that first increase
Now I know I'm a nuffy and I don't really know what I'm doing. But I tried knitting four stitches and then making one by knitting in the front and back on the fifth
Nope. Pulled it all out and then knitted three stitches and made one by knitting back and front on the fourth.
Nope.
So I got the shits and unraveled it all and found another pattern

This one. And it's free!
I paid for the first pattern and I have made it in the smaller size. It's only out by a couple of stitches so easily rectified on the next row
But the large size is out by about 12 stitches and I have no idea what I am doing wrong.
So I have now started this on and as of th first increase I have the correct number of stitches.
If anyone can see what the hell im doing wrong. Please tell me.
It's driving me crazy
Now as for this Indian summer .............

An ordinary weekend

It's Saturday night and hubby and I are home watching telly
I've had my hips put back where they are supposed too so I'm supposed to rest for two or three days
So I've spent all day today just doing regular housework, washing and crafting. Only doing lifts spurts and resting in between
Hubby has been a busy boy outside. Mowing and wedding the garden beds
I've finished two baby blankets and a baby girls cardigan. So now all babies have something hand made for when they are born
I've started this in threes cardigan with the loft over yarn. If it's big enough it will be for Melody but if it's not it will go to the charity pile at knitting
Tomorrow we are having lunch at a friends  and then back home for an early night.
Trying hard to cut down on pain meds. So I'm not going to push any harder than I have too
Have a lovey weekend all
See ya

Autumn equinox

Day and night at of equal time.
Now the days will shorten and the nights will be long and cold
Already today the weather is cooler. Much cooler than the last few days
Hubby spent yesterday splitting this wood so we have a good amount to start off our winter with
More will be added slowly

And here is the beginning of a bonfire
I'll slowly pull out the summer crops and add to this. Anything that can't be fed to th chickens or sheep
Hopefully we will be able to light it once the fire restrictions are over
Rain is forecast for th next few days. We really need it.
How's the wether at your place?
Are you coming into winter like us, or are beautiful sunny days coming your way?
See ya xxx

A new look

These drapes have been on our windows for over 23 years
They were put up before we had the front veranda and had to keep the hot afternoon sun out
They are very faded in places and getting harder and harder for me to clean

So I got some total block out blinds and yesterday hubby pulled down two sets of drapes and installed these.
They will need a pain to cover the marks left by the old tracks. But eventually I will cover that area with a pelmet of some sorts
I have a few ideas.
Just by removing the dark drapes and replacing them with the light blinds it already has made it look much brighter in here

Here is the back door.
A more modern look
Two more windows to change and then to save money for the next stage
Hopefully hubby will be able to do it either tonight or over the weekend
Not a hard job. Just needs both of us on step ladders

Wirrawilla walk

We all went on a walk through the Forrest. It was a Baird walk to help keep us off the tracks and preserve the flora. There were little signs every telling us about the plants. It was very educational for the girls so they could go back to school and tell their teachers they learnt things while on holidays lol. Love walking through the forests. The thick foliage muffled all sounds and you can convince yourself your the only one in there. Totally alone. Bliss
Hope you enjoy the pics

Murrindindi- toolangi state Forrest

Here we are at camp just two families. The other two were at the camp site across from us

Same camp site. But from other end.  My camper van is the white and green one the one with the girls is bronwyn and Dave's

Our solar panels out in the sun keeping the battery full so we have lights

Our camp fire. Always great to sit around and talk about everything

Here is the back of bronwyn and Kay and I in the water in the middle of the water fall. It was freezing. But as it's like fifty steps down to it. It was very nice once you got in.
Unfortunately you heated up again going back up to the top
We are home now and half unpacked the van.
I'm very tired but I've had a lovely relaxing bath and once the washing machine is finished I'll hang th washing and relax the rest of the night.
I'll post more pics tomorrow showing the lovely walk we did through the bush

Yarn tails!

I've been busy, in between everything else, working on my crochet and knitting projects
The purple cardigan was my first chevron baby cardigan in a while and I miss counted. I was two pattern repeats short!
So I decided to add the fancy white down the sides. My daughter in laws sister liked it. So it's gone with her for her cute little girl to wear
It's perfect to use over a dress.
The pink and white one is one I made for a friend that lives in California. She really liked the one I had made for Melody so I've sent it off for her little girl
Hopefully she gets it soon. It's already been a week since I posted it

This is a baby blanket for my niece who is expecting her first baby in August. She is having a boy so no pinks or purples here lol
I love that we can know now and make something specifically for their babies. Although I love neutrals I also love being able to make a blanket for a special someone

And of course still making bunnies and chickens to add to the pile we are going to be sending to the royal children's hospital in Melbourne. We only have a few weeks until we have to send the parcel off
I'll try and remember to take a pic and get a final count once we are done
So that's what's been on my needles and hooks. Have you been working on anything crafty lately?
See ya xxx

Fitting two into one

When children return to the nest, lots of stuff comes home with them
There were boxes with kitchen written on them in my kitchen.
So many boxes. And they all had food in them
So we had to find room in the pantry to fit them all in
So my wonderful hubby helped me clean and organise and fit it all in
Look how pretty!
Plus side. Don't actually have to food shop for a long time now
Nothing like necessity making do something that you have put off for months and months and months
Totally exhausted now.  But it's done.
Now let the cooking begin!

Next time I post it  will be when the nest goes from empty to full again
Enjoy your weekend

First day of autumn. Apparently

Happy first of the month
Yup it's march and the first day of auntum here in Melbourne Australia
This is kinda what I think when I think autumn. Lots of reds and yellows. Apples and pumpkins
Frosty mornings and the trees turning into a wonderful world of colour

This is what we are getting today
Blue skies, sunshine and hot weather
Enjoy your day everyone.
I'm going to take advantage of the sunshine and wash the bedding and just store up the vitamin D
