Anxiety and panic attacks

I finished sorting through all my clothes.

It doesn’t look it. But there is ample space now.

The clothes aren’t all pushed against one another and it’s easy to rifle through to find what your looking for

While working in this I was waiting for my shopping from woolies to arrive

It was here before I had finished.

I use the door dash app and they’re very good at keeping you updated and are very prompt.

I’m very had shoppers ring and ask if I would accept a product because the one I ordered wasn’t available

This had been great for me.

I’ve always been a homebody and during the early years of marriage had to be. Fuel prices were high, so I would only go into town once a week. Do everything I needed and then back home.

I’ve never been confident driving too far from home. Basically because I was prevented from doing so

My parents were very strict and I pretty much never left home alone I think this has been a big part of my lack of confidence

I wasn’t able to build it in my formative years

As I got older it slowly got worse.

It hasn’t helped that I’ve been hit from behind three times in the last seven years.

It also doesn’t help that I have begun to get lost. Even going to my parents house, which I lived in, I got lost three times last year.

I have been known to ring hubby in years because I can’t remember how to get home

It’s not frequent but enough to make me nervous

My friends know this and will always pick me up when we go out together.

And was why they drove me to the hospital to visit and pick up hubby

So being able to do my shopping on line had made me a much happier and not as anxious all the time.

It’s actually one of the reasons I stopped going to the pool. Between all the road works, detour signs and driving in the dark, I’d start to get anxious the night before

I know I’m being silly but I honestly can’t help it.

Last week I left the house just one day. To the post office which is across the highway from me and to the pharmacy, which is a 5-10 minute drive down the highway.

Short simple drives.

At least being an  anxious person prone to panic attacks is much easier in the time of internet shopping. I don’t know how I would of been if I didn’t have that

  1. You are NOT being silly. Your problem is real. Probably more people have similar problems but will not admit it.

  2. Oh boy, those strict Greek parents. Yours sound like my inlaws, especially with the girls. I'm sorry yours didn't change even in Australia. Of course it must have been very hard to throw off that yoke. Thank goodness you could bring your children up with a different way of thinking.
Thank goodness your family and friends are there to support you now. I hate driving but have to do so, around our small island. Your confidence recedes as you get older.
Keep doing what you feel confident at doing and make use of all these modern facilities. Online shopping where you live is an amazing convenience. Use it to the full.

  3. I gave up driving about 10 years ago. I was getting terrible pains in my left leg for days after driving even a short way. My doctor was no help, but I saw an osteopath, who diagnosed nerve damage from a broken toe 20 years earlier and gave me exercises, which really helped. By then I had lost my nerve and my husband is a much more confident driver anyway, so he took over all the driving. I do worry about what would happen if anything happened to him.

I have had panic attacks in the past and know how frightening they are. You are not being silly, just human. Do what you feel comfortable with and continue to use work arounds, like online delivery (isn't it wonderful?) to make life easier.

  4. Not silly at all. Just dealing with your life as best you can. I was so relieved to get out from car ownership and driving, just so stressful. So I get that.

  5. Yes, having a good "work around" an anxiety issue is great and I'm all for it! Do whatever you can to make life easier!
