Unfortunate

The wild weather has done damage to our powerlines
We haven’t had any power since midday

The shed really can’t function without power do the boys have locked up early and gone home

Ana was asleep at the time but woke up to no telly
Not a huge problem. But as we don’t have any gas I couldn’t cook her a hot meal.
Her daddy took her home so she could eat a proper meal and not snacks

It’s now six and I’ve got all the candles lit.
The fire has been going since last night.

I’ve had a Hot bath
And I’m rugged up.
Got an audiobook going.
The website say’s estimated time of power coming back is around eleven tonight

It’s hubbys birthday today   I had planned to get Ana to help me make a cake.
Oh well.  A drink or two in candlelight will have to do

Project completed

I finished the seats.
I used the pillow cases and made patchwork pieces for the seating cushion

I pretty much used all the fabric. One double and two single doona sets all that was left were small scraps. Not useable for anything

I’m very happy with it.   It should last a few years
And they’re easily taken off for laundering.

I had a Little helper   Bella had always stayed near when I was working in the sewing room

Little miss quality control lol

Thinking outside the box

My outside furniture needed the covers cleaned. But if I tried to pull them off and wash them one more time they would fall apart.

We did beat them and got all the dust off. But they looked stained. They’re just getting on

Hubby suggested we buy new covers. So I looked online and one set of four covers cost $65.
That’s just the small cushions.

So I decided I would make them.

Monday I headed off to the op shop and bought three doona covers. Total cost $20

Two covers were used on this. I kept the material double so I knew it would cover and be more durable

I forgot to take a before shot but in this pic you can see the old material was looking shabby

I’m hoping the last doona cover be enough to finish the single chairs

The pillow cases can be used to make the strips down the sides.

All three are mainly dark blue so even though they’re not exactly the same. They match

A good day’s sewing I think
And way cheaper than buying ready made

Planting

More strawberry crowns. Must have plenty  for princess Anastasia

She’s been checking the strawberries every week!

I’ve planted potatoes in one of the large garden beds. Just two rows. Should get enough to share with the kids

I’ve sown the tomato seeds. I ended up using four packed in this large seedling tray   I’ll used the strongest seedlings and hopefully get a decent crop this year.

I also weeded the other strawberry pots and the rhubarb. Cleaning out the dead and dry leaves

I need to top up some pots but I’m done for the day

I swam, shopped and did a load of washing

Now to sit and rest before starting dinner
I’ll keep working on my crochet blanket

Spring cleaning

Happy Father’s Day.
It’s the first weekend of spring

I can hear lawn mowers going the sun is shining
And we hit the back to give it a good clean after a long winter.

We had already removed all the accumulated rubbish and assorted other things that just got dumped here over winter.

Everything was dusty and covered in cobwebs

You can see the table how bad it is

We cleaned and scrubbed and now it’s habitable once again

We did stop midway as baby girl and family visited for Father’s Day

Once they had gone we got back into it.

I’m now sitting and admiring the handiwork

I’m sure we will spend lots of time out here now

Garden spam

Bulbs bursting into flower

Nasturtium going crazy. I’ll be cutting this back

Blossom on fruit trees.
They all got a very hard pruning two winters ago. So I’m very glad to see they’re not dead

The veggies are coming along

Chickens weeding and feeding

Remember the cheap packet of mixed seeds.
Look how full it’s getting

This morning’s harvest of eggs
The girls are busy giving me lots and lots of eggs

It’s cold out but the sun is shining and it feels like it’s going to be a lovely day

I’ll soon head off to art class and then maybe potter outside

Hubby has gone to the farm to clean up the entrance so we can get our caravan in.

Exciting times ahead

Getting started

It’s that time of year where I start to think of Christmas
The hand made gifts need to be done and dusted before the event.

So blanket one is done.
I hope the intended recipient likes it.
She lives flowers so during winter she can use these to keep warm

Next project is now underway
This person is all about the beach. So a wavy chevron was my go too

The brown is for the rocks that are all over the beaches around here. Especially down Philip island where the seals like to sun themselves

The blue is the water and then I’ll add a stripe of white

I’ll definitely show you some progress shots

I’m still resting. I’ve not set an alarm this week. So if I wake up I swim. If I don’t I figured my body needs the rest. I’m taking the pressure off myself and just go with what my body dictates

For now I’ll enjoy the rest of my morning coffee and decide what I’ll tackle today
