Back to basics

My son kept telling me to watch the Mandalorian
I kept putting it off because I need to just sit and watch

Eventually he convinced me so I needed a simple project to do
While watching the series

So I’ve gone back to the faithful granny square
You don’t really have to even look at what your doing. Just a glance once in a while

As for the series, oh yes I love it
He knows me so well

Stay safe

Earthquake

Today just for a change of pace, victoria had a massive earthquake
That was felt in four states

I was home with Anastasia and it shook the house for a very long time
No damage that we can see
But I can tell you I kept shaking long after it was over

We did get a strong aftershock only a short time after the quake
But it seems to have settled down now

We don’t get earthquakes as a norm here
We do get lots of little ones that we don’t feel
But never ones this strong

The universe is sure keeping us on our toes

Makes a change from all the covid stuff anyway

Stay safe and well

A new week

Another week has begun
The weather is still cold and wet
Still waiting for summer to arrive and for our lockdown to end

HOTH
I’ve finished my Christmas blanket
I think it turned out ok

I’ll use it as a decoration during Christmas
If we get to enjoy one that is.

While working on the blanket I’ve been listening to this audiobook on audible

It’s a story of two little girls, who’s life is turned upside down when their mother remarries
I’ve not finished it by oh my it’s quite a story
It takes you on a journey that starts in post war London and all the way to Sydney Australia

 I highly recommend it

Meanwhile I hope you are all well
Stay safe
See ya xx

Crochet tiles

All crochet tiles are done.
Now I have to sew it all up
That’s a fun job.  I’ll work on it during the week and hopefully by the end of the week I’ll have it ready for it’s border

Hubby and I went for a walk around the botanic gardens today
I was a able to increase my speed today, my legs and especially my ankles have now swollen
But I’m going to continue to push myself

I hope your all enjoying your weekend
We have lovely sunshine one minute and then the next the temp plummets and we get rain and even have had hail
So I’ll be inside the rest of the day

Stay safe and well
See ya

Getting out

Today I went to the local botanic gardens
We are only allowed to travel within five kilometres from home and the gardens are thankfully definitely
In the five ks

While driving to the carpark, there is a long road into the gardens I saw a wallaby by the side of the road
I couldn’t take a pic as I was driving but he/she was just sitting there watching all the cars go past

I did see this honey eater enjoying a mid morning snack

We also saw a bandicoot
We couldn’t get a pic so here’s one I got before the lockdown

Isn’t he/she adorable

The sun was out and it was a lovey day
There were lots of people out and about in then gardens
Some were having picnics with their children

It was lovely to see
Everyone you came across was wearing a mask
But we were all so happy to be out of the house and enjoying beautiful gardens, lovely weather
And amongst other people I think

Stay well and safe
See ya

new WIP’s

I found this pic on Pinterest a few weeks ago and thought how lovely it was
I did buy Christmas colour yarn before lockdown in preparation for the perfect project
And I decided that this was it

Even though hour Christmas is during our summer I thought it would look nice on a back of the couch

Here is the start of it
The squares are not very big as I didn’t want to run out in the middle of the project
If the pattern doesn’t make a big enough blanket I can put a decent boarder at the end

I actually love just this bit. I’ve decided that once the stores open I’ll buy more yarn and make a Christmas blanket
Made up with bigger squares with just this pattern
But that’s for another day

Hubby has filled my wicking beds and they are now ready to be planted up
We have had a few frosty morning so I’ll wait a little longer and then plant them out

Still don’t have a date for coming out of lockdown
It’s definitely wearing thin now we are all just sick and tired of it
Hopefully as the numbers of vaccinated people go up we will be released
To live our lives again

In the meantime
Stay safe and well

Ta da!

I know. Two posts in one day but I’m so excited I had to share
The quilt top is done and I’m so happy with it
It’s bigger than I thought it would be so a perfect size for a picnic blanket
Or to snuggle under when outside and you want to keep warm

Here it is from another angle

I’ve decided I’ll get it professionally quilted. I wouldn’t know where to start for stitch in the ditch
And an all over quilting will help keep it all together as there are so many joins

So now my stash of scraps is very small and made up of larger pieces

The long pieces of 2.5 cuts I put in my binding pile will go to binding this once it’s quilted
I just have to wait until we open up again

In other exciting news I’ve got all these wicking beds now
Just need to top them up with the actual growing soil and away I can go

We have been very productive this weekend. It must be the sunshine
I’m blissful happy. It really is the little things

Stay safe and well
See ya xx

Stage one

Stage one is done
I didn’t use all my scraps. Some were just to big to cut up
And would be useful for pattern pieces in different pattern

Some were nice and long and perfect for binding so I’ve added those to my binding pile

But the rest I’ve used in my very long fabric snake.
I’ve put a new jelly roll next to my roll and even though mine isn’t as tight, I think
It’s probably about the same  size and so enough for a quilt top

I’ve re watched the video and I think I’m ready to start
Wish me luck

Stay safe and well

Waste not

Today I decided I was finally going to do something with my scraps
I had started to cut them up in hopes of making something out of them but really
Didn’t know what

Then I saw a YouTube video similar to this

So I’ve decided to do just that only not with a new jelly roll
I’d make my own up with the scraps

So I started to just sew all the bits and pieces I had already cut up

I continued chain sewing until it was just one long piece
And then ironed it all

This was just one lot of scraps all blues and greens
This is another lot of the most recent projects

I’ll cut these up into 2.5 inch wide by however long the scrap will allow me
And continue to join them to my one long piece

I’ll then go through my big bag of scraps and do the same
I definitely won’t have enough for a quilt top yet. But at least the scraps will be all sorted and
In one neat pile

The weather today looks grey but the wind is kinda warm
So that’s a nice change

Still in lockdown
Still no light at the end of the tunnel as yet
So I’ll be here still plodding along

Stay safe and well
See ya

A budding friendship

No matter where Anastasia is. Trixie is right there with her
If I’m trying to get her to sleep Trixie will go to her bed and just watch me
Once in the cot I don’t need an intercom
Trixie will run down the hall as soon as Ana wakes up

She really is a big help to me
And I’m thinking these two will give me a run for my money once Ana is older

It’s beautiful to see them interact

Stay safe and well
See ya

One finished

One quilt is finished
This is destined to go to American for a precious little boy

His great grandmother chose the theme so I hope his mamma likes it

I ordered these buttons and they arrived just in time
This is the first one I’ve used

I’m happy with how it turned out
It’s not a difficult pattern, but the fabric is what I wanted to showcase
And I think it’s does that

I kinda had to get this one done quickly as it has a long way to go and I definitely want it there
Before the baby comes or as close as

Now to get it there
Stay safe and well
See ya xx

Babies

There are a couple of babies coming
A boy and a girl
So I’ve used up some of my Disney fabrics to make some quilts

I’ve got enough wadding but I’m not sure about backing fabric. So I’ll look and see what I have and how far it will go
I might have to ring the quilt shop and do an order over the phone and then just go and collect it if I’m able or just get them
To send it out.

Lockdown is weighing everyone down
This one stared as a seven day lockdown and it feels like it’s gone on for six months!

Hope your all keeping well and happy
Stay safe

New beginnings

Went out to check out the garden this morning and there are buds bursting to life everywhere
These are my grapevines that I grew from cuttings last year.
Looking lovely

Hubby made me my first wicking bed
I’ve got four more of these barrels so there are more coming
I’ve planted bush beans to hopefully get an early harvest
Fingers crossed they take off

Finished the two pram blankets for the charity box
Using up all my odds and ends feels good. I don’t like waste
And I’m sure someone will like them

It’s Father’s Day today
So to all the dads enjoy your special day

Stay safe and well
See ya

Spring has sprung

Happy first day of spring
It’s lovely outside and it nice to get some washing on the line

Nothing smells as nice as line dried washing

The sky is blue, the sun is out and there is only the slightest of breezes
This weather is supposed to last till the end of the week so I’m going to enjoy it

All doors and windows are open to let the fresh air in

Remember that pentagram that caused me all sorts of bother.
I’ve decided I’ll turn it into a baby blanket for the charity pile
I hope to have a few blankets ready for when we are allowed out of lockdown and back
To knitting group

I had a spare hexagon. I’ll do the same with that one too
Nothing gets wasted here and there isn’t enough yarn to undo it and make something else

Still getting big numbers everyday
But with lots of people getting vaccinated we hope to be able to open up
Again soon

In the meantime
Stay safe and well
See ya
