Lots of little things

We have sectioned off the front of the picket fence and allowed the chickens to come through. The old fence is almost falling down. So much so we couldn't weed as they were what was holding it up
Over winter the girls will clean it up and in the spring we will get it replaced. As the chickens live on the other side of this it will have to be done in the one day. So all material will be purchased and painted and then erected. Let's hope we will pull it off correctly
But for now the girls are enjoying the view from the other side
Bought these pots and they are reqdy for planting. I want to plant those ballerina Apple trees.  They grow up instead of out. The is enough room for two in each pot. They will help hide the shed and give me yummy apples
And today our new couches arrived. These are smaller than our old ones, so the room feels bigger and they have leg rests. So I'm sure they will be very comfy. The cats have already climbed all over them and given them the Seal of approval
So nothing extraordinary but lots of little things keep us busy
How has your week been shaping up?

Fencing the end. For now

The last part of the back fence. It was just hanging in there.  It was looking worse the wear

So it was all pulled down yesterday I kinda like the open look. But not very practical.
So fencing commenced. And was finished today. It looks so much nicer. Hopefully this will last another twenty odd years and by then we will be too old to live here and will have to scale down so the new owners will need to worry about that.
But you just never know what the future holds.

Fencing day

The old fence had seen better days. We put it up over 22 years ago. It's been a while coming but I was dreading it as my creeper was doing really well.
But the boys dismantled the old fence and saved the creeper.
The built the fence in behind it

And attached to back onto the new. How good are they!
It looks so much better and I've cleaned and rearranged. And decided I definitely need more pot plants.
What do you think?
Tomorrow they will do the back fence.
Can't wait

Hungry birds

On Sunday I bought a cuttlefish for my birds. At first the didn't seem interested but today I found this on the bottom of their cage. It's more than half eaten
Here is a side shot. See how thin. I'm amazed. I've put it back in with a special clip so the can continue eating it. But it looks like I'll have to another this weekend.
I'm so glad I got it for them. They obviously needed it badly
Windy here right now but I think rain is coming so in back outside to get things done before that happens

New fruit trees

Today we went to diggers in dromana to get some fruit trees.
Here they are. They may look little now  but they will grow big and hopefully produce lots for us
We even got some garlic to plant. Yummy
Hubby is planting the two avocado trees. We will start them in pots and plant out in 12-18 months. Hopefully the will be hardier and have a better chance of growing strong
A tamarillo. These are frost tender so will stay in the pot under our back porch
All three have been staked and given liquid food to aid in root formation
This is a loquat. It's a baby now but grows huge. So it's already out in the orchard. Again protected and feed.
And as the drive to dromana from here is about 45 minutes I took along a new project. That way no time is wasted.
So a lovely day spent traveling and planting enjoying the sunshine. I'm sure winter will come soon.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Sunny Saturday

It's a lovely Saturday morning. A little windy which is just cool. But so very nice out
Perfect for getting the lawns done. With all the recent rain its growing quickly
I had to harvest these as my poor little tree was weighed under. Still had a few more. Not bad for only a year in the pots
The brassicas are growing really well. In here there is kale mini cauliflower and broccoli. A second planting will be needed soon to keep us going all winter
The Beetroot is also progressing nicely and the silverbeet is still going strong. Plenty for us the chooks and to share
Even the finger eggplant still going. Even though the plants are tiny
The chickens love their daily silverbeet hit. They always wait patiently when the see me coming lol
Even the budgies love it
And yes the cats are still fascinated by them
What's happening in your back yard?

A quick hello

Hi everyone.
Life is just plodding along at the moment.
Not much to write about. The weather has turn very wet and windy but not too cold
Have started the swimming again this week. But only did three days. Taking it easy after a three week break
The garden has really enjoyed the water and the paddocks are looking lush and green again. Thank goodness. I was worrying about feed.
So all in all. It's been a good week
Hope your all doing well

Soup day

The weather today is sunny. But very windy. It makes you feel cold just listening to it
Perfect soup  weather. In here is a whole pumpkin  I bought  from a road side stall for a dollar.
Added a couple of carrots, for sweetness
And then mixed one can coconut cream and a good tablespoon of the red curry paste with a little water.
It gives the soup a spicy Asian taste. You all know how I like to experiment in the kitchen lol
And here it is cooking slowly on the fire.
What are you having for your dinner tonight?

What a weekend

It started Friday with the Comedy capers of getting the birdcage and budgie home.
Then Saturday we picked up our beautiful granddaughter and brought her here for a sleep over while her parents attended a wedding.
Then Sunday we had Greek Easter so off we all went to my parents home for a traditional lamb on the spit
And today I received my little blue boy budgie.
I have named them ophelia and Horatio.
So a busy, weekend with th family.
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend as well
