Bonfire

Hubby gets bored easily and especially now the he has no license. So he decided he would light the bonfire and do some cleaning up. He used his baby chainsaw to cut the lower branches on our native trees so its easier to mow around them, and added the cuttings to our already substantial fire.

The fire is burning hot and will need to be tended for a while. Looks like he will spend most of tonight outside. Oh well at least he will be warm. Me I'm inside cooking roast chicken and my sister in law and her two girls are coming over to have some tea with us.
Gotta love that!

A week in review

This week we have had a funeral, a birthday, and a new baby.
This is life as we all know it.
My cousin died and I was too sick to go to his funeral, I felt bad but there was nothing I could do about it.
My son turned 24 and for the first time I didn't have a dinner for him. But I did cook some yummy greek cheese pie for his lunch and made him some scones for his afternoon tea.
And a new baby boy has been welcomed into the world.
In th next week we await the birth of a baby girl and a wedding of two of my sons friends from school.
They are all growing up and becoming adults and bring children into the world.
I suddenly feel old. Haha
Yes life goes on and the wheel turns. I'm going from the mother to the crone and I'm happy and content with that.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Monster under the doona

There was something moving around under my doona this morning. It was trying to play with my feet and then started to walk up past my body. I slowly lifted the end of the doona up,fearing for my very life and anxious to see what wild creature had invaded.
Only to see this cheaky face looking at me!

Supermoon Downunder

some shots i took of the supermoon rising over the bay at the blindbight boat ramp. I was paying around with my camera and changing different aspects to see the difference it made. I had fun, but it was cold so we only stayed out for about an hour then we got some fish and chips for tea and headed home. My sister in law came with us, and we kept asking each other what settings we were using. Poor hubby and my neice just sat in the car as they got very cold just standing around.
we decided we needed to go on more photo shoot trips.

Solstice

Waking up today to the shortest day of the year and you are in no doubt that it's winter. These shots were taken at 9.am the sun is shining but in the frost is still on the ground.

the cookies are enjoying their hot porridge for breakfast, and the dogs are getting hot milk. That should get their tummies nice and warm.
I have garlic to plant but I will wait till the supermoon has passed, that way the energy will be directed back into the ground and hopefully I'll get bigger garlic.
Enjoy your day whatever your doing, and stay happy and safe.

Cold

It's been our coldest start in Sven years here in Melbourne and here where I live the temp has only just got into the double figures. The fire has been going all day and the chill has been only just kept at bay. The only thing to do is stay in watch some DVDs and do some crafting. It's been hard as this little girl just wanted to snuggle all day. I don't think she like the cold much.
All my friends in New Zealand stay warm apparently your having some wild weather there yourselves.

For snowbrush, clarification.

This is what in australia we call a caravan. I love my caravan and if it was up to me we would only go on the type of holiday that we can take this. No off road just cruising down the open road and staying in parks where you plug in the water and power and relax.
But hubby likes to go off road and Australia is a beautiful country and you would miss a lot of it if you didn't go off road, so we got one of these. It's a camper trailier. It's basically a huge tent on a trailier. But the best thing is there is lots of storage and your bed is off the ground!
I hope this has cleared up what we Aussies call what. We are planning a trip in September to explore the flinders ranges in south Australia. So get your things packed and be ready to come along for the ride!

Busy bees

The last few days have been very busy indeed. Hubby and son drove to Sydney on wednesday and picked up our new camper trailer and drove straight back home again. Then on Friday we had the funeral of my aunt. She is my aunt but also dons. We are related to her from either side of her family. It's because of her Donald and I meet. Don't know wether to thank her or not lol. Then on Saturday we had my nieces sweet 16th birthday. It was a mad hatters tea party. Lots of fun!
Then today I as looking forward to resting but wonderson asked if he could use my washing machine. So I am currently drying his work clothes in front of the fire. So while he and his beautiful girlfriend were here baby girl txted that she and her fiancé were on their way. So my whole family was here. I loved it!
So now they have all gone home and it's just hubby and me along with our animals snugly warm.
I'm hoping to rest during the week but an optometrist appointment tomorrow, and I really need to get a new script from the doctors means I'll be out and about tomorrow.
I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend.

RAIN!

The weather here has nosedived, it's been pouring rain for the last 24hours and it doesn't look like its getting ready to stop any time soon. The yard is flooded and it's cold. Hopefully the rain runs out and it all gets a chance to dry out. How is the weather in your part of the world?

It's the little things

The other day I found some curtains really cheap. I could not resist so I got some. I had a hard time choosing which ones I wanted, and being cheap only $11.00 I was tempted to get all three designs. But I was good and decided on the tea pot. Don is putting up the brackets so I can hang the rods on.
Little miss decided this must be for her to sit on. I think she approves.
The finished window. It has changed the whole feel our our home. All for under $30.00
You know now that the biggest expense has been spent, the rods, I think I might go back and get the others and put them away for when I feel like a change. What do you think?

You know it's cold .....

When the cat steals your blankie
The dog makes a nest.

So the only thing to do is rug up, throw some more wood on the fire, make a hot cuppa and watch the hobbit. And dream of the day you go back to new Zealand.

Photography Class

for the past 6 weeks I have been going to a biginners Photography class. Hubby got me a youbeaut camera for christmas and I wanted to learn how to use it and get the best shots. This first photo is one I took and hasnt been edited. I used quite a few techniques we had learnt and im very happy with it.
The next two are the same photo but the first is how I took it and the second one has been slightly cropped and made into a black and white.

The next two are the same, the first one is how I took it, I used a long shutter speed to try and get the feel of the movement of the water. The second one is the same shot but its been edited to make it brighter

The course has got the creative juices going, so now hopefully Ill be able to go out and get some great shots. Ill post a few more during the next few days if you like.
We had a ball and got some really freaky photos using light, torches and changing the shutter speeds.

Cherry red

I have been looking for a kettle to use on my fire for ages. I wanted one that I could use without the whistle. I looked at all the stores and have been unable to find one. Then today while browsing the reject shop I spotted this. It was only $12.00 and was the only red one there.  I knew I had to have it. I have made my first cuppa and it was sooooooo good. So if your in the neighbourhood pop in the kettle is always on.

Away camping

SThis weekend we headed off camping. We packed our stuff and left around lunchtime of on Friday.
First thing you need to do is set up your tent, rain was forcast so and extra precaution of a quick shade made sure we did not get wet
Saturday night we cooked up a roast beef with veggies in our camp oven. I didn't take a shot of the food as we we're way hungry and ate it all up too quickly. Let me tell you we had the beef, potatoes, pumping, carrots all in the oven and peas and corn were cooked on the single burner. Yummy!
While 4x4 driving on Saturday we found this hut, inside there were two bunk beds and a huge fire place. Leanne is signing the visitors book. Anyone can use it!

And here is a koala just sitting in its tree, it was further down but when we stopped to take photos it climbed higher. We must of looked scary lol the biggest thing about this weekend is that I had to drive all the way to the camp site and do the 4x4 driving and drive home again because my dear hubby has lost all his points and is barred from driving for three months. Let me tell you I was so nervous. The car even had things on the roof and driving up the winding roads fully loaded was very scary. But we made it there and back again and no damage or deaths so all is good.
