Crafters unite

With the devastation of the bush fires hitting the news. The call has gone out
To crafters. We need your help
There are many things needed but I knew I needed to make stuff fast
Although the rest of the world has heard our call. It takes time for it to arrive down under
So although I’ve been tagged in lots of crochet and knitting post I knew I had to get my sewing machine going

Pouches are needed for orphan marsupials
So I went through my stash to see what I had
Lots of odd and ends of different sizes

These I used to make the pouches

But each pouch needs three inner liners
I remembered I bought some flannel sheet sets. But I only used the fitted sheet
I kept the flat sheets for backings

I’ve not used them as yet. So I pulled them out for the inners

One pouch and three inners all ready to go

And a second set
I’m resting now. But I’ll get back to it later.

If you can knit, crochet, sew go ahead and check out what’s needed. There is heaps
If you can’t craft maybe become a drop off point and do the delivery
If you can’t do this give some money or even volunteer to help sort
We all can play a small part
Our animals need you
Thank you to all the crafters who right now across the world are busy making things to help us
Our Aussie animals. Thank you
See ya xxx

  1. Oh Angela, I cried seeing the news tonight and the poor animals burnt from the fires. I made a donation to help the wildlife and the redcross. Your beautiful country and wonderful animals will regenerate, and we know are tough. I can smell the smoke in the air here tonight in Wellington and can't imagine how bad it must be for some of you.

  2. This is a great initiative! We get reports about the Australian bush fires every day on the news and it's horrific. I feel so much for those affected, and the animals - I get so upset at the number of animals which have died or are injured. I'm such a softy when it comes to animals. Of course I care very much about the people but at least they understand what is happening. The animals on the other hand must be so scared and confused.

I've been busy since the New Year making bat wraps, animal pouches, small blankets and liners to send home to Australia. I saw the call out for these things and got out my sewing machine straight away. I happened to mention it to a neighbour here and there are now a dedicated band of us in this small Swedish town sewing, knitting and crocheting according to patterns we found on the Animal Rescue Craft Guild. We sent off the first batch this morning (via courier) - hoping that our small contribution can ease the lives of a few of those orphaned creatures.
