Garden setback

Today I went out to mulch everything and I noticed the tomato seedlings had been cut at soil level. I had no idea what happen. But then I saw one little seedling had three slater  bugs all around it.

I pulled them out and mulched. I know snails don’t like travelling over it. So hopefully neither will the slater bugs

It’s a good thing I planted extra and I’ve still got my seedlings to Omar out when they get taller

I don’t think a garden bed looks finished until it’s mulched.

Even the potatoes got some

The dark purple eggplants. I typed zucchini yesterday. Got mulched added

The seeds I threw into pots have grown. Mint in this one. With fennel

I alway forget what I plant until it grows. This one looks like sage

In the official herb garden I planted seedlings and also seeds. The seeds are all sprouting

A couple of years ago. I made some bowl cosies for my masseuse Sue. She loved them and uses hers everyday.
A couple of friends asked her about them so I made a few for her to gift them for Christmas. She suggested I make some to sell. She had a table of things in her waiting room.

So I’ve made five sets of two and priced them at $15 a set
If they sell I’ll make more. If not Sue can have them.

Nothing ventured nothing gained I say

The rest of the day will be spent doing some washing  cooking and crocheting

Slowly the gardens are taking shape again

  1. Those bowl cozies for microwaving are a clever idea!

  2. I was told once that slaters slugs and anything that crawl’s don’t like crushed egg shells or kitty litter (the cheap white clay stuff). Might be worth a try

    1. No apostrophe needed on crawls- ***** text thinks it knows what I’m saying!

    1. Luckily I planted a few in each one. And I’ve still got the ones I’m growing. Thankfully

  4. We didnt know slaters would harm tomatoes. Did you know that slaters are related to crabs and shrimps (not insects)? Piece of useless information there.

    1. I only worked it out when I saw them having a feast.
I don’t think I’d ever like to eat one yuck

  5. I'm envious of your herb garden. Our chives are finally growing again. They didn't like the heat. I did have sage once but it's very hard to find here.
Your mulching makes the garden look so neat. The perfect finish

    1. I buy the seeds from the cheap shops when they’re on special. And just Chuck them everywhere. They all seem to have sprouted so I’m happy. I’ll dry them for winter use once summer is over

  6. I like your approach to seed planting! I used to find that something would bite off plants at ground level unless I planted them with collars of paper or card, extending into the earth a bit and running several inches up the stems. Whatever ate them was foiled that way.

    1. The mulch has done it’s job. No more losses.
My approach to seeds is kinda my approach to life.
Just give it a go. What’s the worst that can happen.
